The Hostel

Ostello del Sorbo is located within the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Sorbo, a place steeped in tradition and surrounded by the natural landscape of Veio Regional Park. The hostel lies north of Rome, along the Via Francigena, on the border between the municipalities of Campagnano di Roma and Formello, where the penultimate stage of the route begins.

Hospitality and community

At the hostel, hospitality is understood as a profound expression of Christian fellowship and solidarity. Guests will find a safe, clean and well-run facility, together with a welcoming, family-like atmosphere that turns every stay into an opportunity for genuine human connection.

The Rooms

The hostel can accommodate up to 20 guests in four- and six-bed rooms with bunk beds. The four-bed rooms have private bathrooms. Guests staying in the six-bed rooms have access to bathrooms and showers in adjacent facilities. The hostel also has an accessible bathroom with a shower for guests with disabilities. All rooms are air-conditioned.

Services and transport

The accommodation includes a set of bed linen and towels, Wi-Fi access, and the use of a modern shared kitchen to prepare breakfast and other meals. Pilgrims travelling along the Via Francigena can easily reach the hostel on foot. Other guests are advised to travel by private transport, as there is no public transport connection between the Sanctuary and the nearest town centre.

Social impact and the environment

The hostel’s services are managed by the “Desiderio di Barbiana” Cooperative, which provides employment opportunities for autistic people and people with other psychosocial disabilities. Located within the protected area of Veio Regional Park, the hostel operates with the utmost respect for its natural surroundings and adopts environmentally responsible practices to reduce energy use and conserve resources.
